Working with a hairstylist
If you do not have a hairstylist, you can search through online yellow pages or a national directory of registered hairstylists such as StylistMatch. Once you find a stylist you are comfortable with, there are several things to remember in order to create your most flattering wedding hairdo.
Your personal styleDo you have a special look? Of course you do — more than one, in fact. You have an everyday, go-to-work look; a casual, let-your-hair-down look; and a look you reserve for special occasions. It’s this last one you want to capture and enhance. What is your special-occasion look? What makes you feel beautiful when you go out on the town? Do you sweep your hair back off your face, put it up and pull out a few wisps to soften the effect, let it dry into its natural curls, or blow out those curls for a sleeker effect? Once you know what your special-occasion look is, all you have to do is add some excitement to it. For example, if you feel good in an updo that elongates your neck and highlights your cheekbones, you might just add a little soft sparkle, a smattering of glitter, or a few jeweled hairclips. Just be sure that whatever you add works with your veil, tiara, or other hairpiece. Stick with your final decisionYou’ve made your choices, done your trial runs, bought the right accessories, and can finally take a deep breath and relax. Then, suddenly, you start having second thoughts. Perhaps you think your hair is too long or too straight or too dark. Stop! This is no time to second-guess yourself or do anything drastic. Your hair should look naturally beautiful on your wedding day. That means no last-minute haircut or color, no permanent, no big moves you may regret. Your wedding haircut should be about three weeks old, so it has time to settle down. Believe it or not, fresh cuts often put your hair into shock. That’s not a look you’re aiming for. The only thing you can do at the last minute is wash your hair, and even that should be done the day before your wedding. Don’t use conditioner, or your hair will be soft as butter and may wilt before the night is over. Your Wedding Hairstyle | Working with a hairstylist | Your Personal Style |
